Team building escape room games are sweeping the recreational market all over the world. After making their debut in 2012, these so-called “escape rooms” have begun showing up in places like India, the U.K., Japan, Canada, and the U.S.

One of the best things about the

new craze is that it contains an educational component that can help groups of people develop various skills. Not only individual consumers but corporate clients are flocking to these games for the purpose of team-building, fun, and building interpersonal skills.

In a typical escape room game, a group of people is taken to a prepared room, instructed by a moderator about what the rules and time limit are, and then allowed to begin. Standard escape games involve the group trying to solve riddles, puzzles and all sorts of intellectual challenges to amass a set of clues that will hopefully lead to a solution that allows the group to escape.

When a team is unable to solve the challenge, they are left in the room for the duration of the game as they continue to “beat the clock” and try to escape before the ending bell or buzzer sounds. The most common time period for solving and escaping is 60 minutes, but some games are shorter or longer. Owners of game rooms can set parameters of the escape room to fit the particular requirements of the team.

Team building escape rooms are one way that people can learn how to interact without the use of a computer or device of any kind. Indeed, many experts believe that this current craze came about because people are tired of the lack of personal connection inherent in the modern corporate and social world. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and assorted other social media platforms are so common that a vast swath of the global population, especially in urban areas, has forgotten how to connect with real human beings.

The escape room is just one example of an escape room entity that brings all kinds of gaming variations to the table. Some groups prefer short, easier challenges for beginners. Others ask for long-form games with time limits of more than 60 minutes and puzzles that are especially difficult to solve. Engineers, students, mathematics enthusiasts, and people of all ages are drawn to the excitement of the escape room fun. This trend is appearing in every nation and continues to gain momentum.
